Improving antibiotic prescription and infection control on the Emergency Room
Module objectives: Emergency Rooms (ERs) are challenging: time is scarce; the workload is great; medical teams are not constant; awareness and expertise can be improved. A signifi cant number of ER admitted patients are infected, requiring early detection of severe situations and adequate antimicrobial therapy. Typically, ERs are the first place for antimicrobial decision, which should be timely and appropriately given, with low rates of change of prescription when patients are transferred to wards. On the other side, ERs are central for screening and isolation of admitted patients, before they transfer to wards, improving safety of other patients and also healthcare workers.
This is the second edition of the course. During two days, the aims will be: the improvement of practices on diagnosis, antimicrobial treatment and screening and isolation on ERs, with animportant simulation component.
The workshop is co-organized by Hospital Universitario La Paz, Spain and Hospital Beatriz Ângelo
(LearningHealth Luz Saúde), Portugal.
